10 Reasons to Choose KIND

At KIND, customer satisfaction is at the core of our business. We pride ourselves on our exceptional customer service and we ensure that our clients are happy with the entire process and wholeheartedly love the final product.

Today we are sharing 10 reasons why our customers choose KIND, which has been outlined by their recent glowing reviews.

01. Patience

Tansy designed and made our wedding rings and we absolutely love them. Tansy was a joy to work with throughout the whole process. We had an in-person consultation initially which was hugely helpful to discuss what we wanted and understand all of the different options. Tansy was very patient answering our many (many!) questions, and we left feeling really happy and excited about working with her. We have now received the rings and they are absolutely perfect, and exactly what we wanted. We can't wait to wear them everyday!

– Jenny, B.

02. Ethically sourced

"Thank you so much for our beautiful rings. We are really thrilled with them both, and we love the engravings - it's exactly what we had in mind! When looking for our wedding rings, it was very important to us that ethically sourced materials were used, and we also wanted something bespoke and special to us. I am so glad we found Kind Collection. It was such a personal service and although neither of us were sure what we wanted at first, Tansy worked with us to figure it out and absolutely nailed it! Thank you Tansy, I'll be recommending Kind to anyone who announces their engagement!"

– Jo & Luke

03. Great service

I found Kind Collection back in 2018 when I searched for a UK based, sustainable jeweller. I found about 5, but the designs at Kind stood out. I worked with Tansy to create a one of a kind engagement band for my girlfriend Amy. She loved it! Tansy was so patient with me while I made the decisions for design. Amy then returned the favour and worked with Tansy to create a band engagement ring, with a baguette diamond, I LOVE IT! We then worked with Tansy for our wedding rings, and again she treated us with patient and kindness as we decided what to go for. We now wear these 4 gorgeous rings everyday and get so many compliments. Our two friends even used Kind too for their engagement rings once they heard the story! If you’re even considering using Kind collection, go for it! Great morals, great service and stunning jewellery!

– Tash, D.

04. Understanding

From the moment we met Tansy, we felt listened to and understood. What we loved about her approach to making our bespoke wedding bands was that she perfectly combined our own personal thoughts and wishes with her creativity. Her communication with us throughout the project was impeccable, as was the completed product. Professionalism, skill and perfection is everything that the Kind Collection delivered. Could not recommend more!

– Wallis, F.

05. Skilled craftsmanship

Can’t recommend Kind and Tansy enough! I have re-worked a ring and also had a couple of bespoke wedding bands & rings made and the final pieces are beautiful. Tansy is evidently very skilled and great to work with from start to finish. Super helpful and kind.

Hannah, L.

06. Easy process

I have had 2 bespoke piece handmade by KIND Collection, and I absolutely love both rings! The process was so easy (and exciting). Tansy kept me updated throughout the whole process, so I knew what stage the rings were at, which gave me a lot of comfort. I had been nervous about designing a bespoke piece, but Tansy made the whole process really smooth and so enjoyable. I also really love knowing that the gemstones and gold in my jewellery have been ethically sourced. I would highly recommend Tansy and KIND Collection to anyone who is considering commissioning a piece of jewellery.

– Bella, C.

07. Flexibility

Tansy's love and passion towards making sure that we had the wedding bands that we wanted spoke so naturally and clearly. She was also extremely flexible and helpful to make sure that we are happy with the rings! We couldn't recommend her more

– Maria, G

08. Attentive

I approached Tansy to make my dream wedding ring… and a dream wedding ring it was! Tansy was such a joy to meet with, was attentive to my desires and carefully thought with me the kind of ring that would bring me joy and also be practical. The end result is a ring I adore wearing and feels so individual to me. She made my husband a matching plain band, which is what he wanted and is so happy with too. The process was really fun! Wholeheartedly glad that she made our precious pieces for us, we will long adore them!!

– Lizzie, A.

09. Perfection

I cannot recommend Kind enough. Tansy is absolutely one of a kind. Unbelievable talent and such a wonderful person to boot! I've bought so many items over the past couple of years and every piece has become an absolute favourite. So much love and work goes into every piece of jewellery. I've bought pieces from the Kind Collection as well as had bespoke pieces made and every time I am blown away but how perfect each piece is. Friends have been blown away by gifts I have bought them. Her creativity and love for her work is limitless and this is evident in her jewellery. A joy to deal with. I never take my jewellery off!!!!

– Emma, B.

10. Informative

We can't thank Tansy enough for our beautiful bespoke wedding rings! She was very patient with my indecisiveness and so informative of the options we had for my engagement ring. We've had so many compliments, including my husband who opted for a matte rose gold ring when we saw how well it went with his skin tone. When the time comes for an eternity ring, we'll absolutely be getting back in touch with Tansy. I'm so glad I stumbled across Kind Collection on instagram!

– Jessica, L.

A Round Up of KIND in 2022

It is hard to believe that it was just 12 months ago that we were sitting here reflecting back on the year that was 2021. The past 12 months have flown by, but they have also been filled with some of the most incredible and challenging moments.

At KIND Collection, we are big believers in celebrate the big moments in life – and everything in between, which is why we would love to share some of the special things that happened in our studio in 2022.

VINTAGE COLLECTION

This year we launched our largest and most extensive Vintage KIND Collection. After sourcing vintage pieces from across the UK for the past few years, we took the leap and released a collection that includes diamond rings, signet rings, charm necklaces and hoop earrings. Our Vintage Collection holds a particularly special place in our hearts as it is such a fantastic way to give jewellery a new lease of life – and it is the most sustainable way to grow your jewellery collection, as the materials are already in circulation. We still have a few stunning pieces available, which can be purchased, here.

ECO WEDDING RING COLLECTION

In October this year we launch our first ready-to-buy range of Eco-Wedding Rings! This was such a milestone occasion for us at KIND, as we have had the pleasure of making wedding bands for customers for the past five+ years – but to be able to offer a timeless and pre-designed collection has made it a more accessible option for more of our community. Our Eco–Wedding Ring Collection is available in your choice of 100% Recycled precious metals, or Fairmined. Each ring can also be created in 9ct and 18ct yellow gold, rose gold, white gold and platinum.

BABY ETTA SKY

A few months ago we welcomed the latest addition to the KIND family. Beautiful baby Etta Sky was born in August, and has been the most treasured part of 2022. Whilst it is always a pleasure, it is fair to say life has become a lot busier in and outside of the KIND studio!

ONE TREE PLANTED

This year we hit 1,000 trees planted! Thank you to everyone that ordered a special piece of jewellery from us in 2022 – your support not only means the world to us, but it also gives us the opportunity give back to the wider community. For the past few years we have been donating a tree to One Tree Planted, for every order placed online at KIND Collection.

BESPOKE

The past 12 months have seen some truly unique and inspiring pieces of bespoke jewellery leaving the KIND studio. From our wedding and engagement ring services, to our REWORK X RECYCLE services, it has been such a wonderful experience working with so many customer to bring their golden (and platinum) visions to life!

Why Choose Bespoke?

With only two weeks until say farewell to 2022, now is the time to get in touch if you are after a special bespoke piece of jewellery for February, March and April in 2023.

The options are endless when you go bespoke, and today we are sharing 5 reasons why you should consider designing your own piece of jewellery.

  1. Unique

Our bespoke service is a highly collaborative process. When you design a bespoke piece of jewellery with KIND Collection, everything about it is literally made for you! From the chosen precious metals and gemstones, to the shape, finish and style – you can choose it all from start to finish. There is something very special about knowing that your jewellery is totally unique. Unlike ready-to-buy pieces that many brands mass-produce, a bespoke piece of jewellery is a one off piece that is unique to you, and won’t ever be duplicated. We take such pride in brining our customers vision to life, and each piece has been intricately designed to be portray our customers personality and style.

2. Use your own metals and gems

As part of our Rework X Recycle services, we can include your own existing precious metals and gemstones and redesign them into a bespoke piece. This is a really sentimental way to create a bespoke piece of jewellery as the existing materials may have been in your family for generations – and have a story to tell! Not only is this a sustainable way to create jewellery, as the materials are already in circulation, but it is also the most cost effective. By including your own precious materials, the price for your jewellery will be less, as there are no third party costs included to purchase the precious metals and gemstones.

3. Meaning

When you choose to go bespoke, your jewellery will be made specifically for you, which intrinsically gives it a lot of sentimental value. In addition to that, it also gives you the ability to add personalised features that hold hidden meaning. Whether it is a signet ring with a family crest engraved on the face, or a necklace with a handwritten messaged engraved on it, you can make your bespoke piece highly sentimental.

For example: The rings pictured above were designed by two daughters for their mothers 60th birthday. Both daughters and their mother have a matching ring, with four birthstones included, which represent both daughters, and their mother and father. Finely engraved on the inside of the ring is a mantra that their mother used to say to them when they were children.

4. Passed down through generations

We take such pride in producing modern heirlooms that can become intertwined with family histories. Our bespoke jewellery is all handmade with the finest ethically sourced materials, so you can be ensured the structural integrity of your jewellery will last a lifetime, and can then be passed down through generations.

5. Celebrate moments in life

Some of the biggest and best moments in life can be celebrated with a bespoke piece of jewellery. From engagement and wedding rings – to jewellery celebrating the birth of a child, a special birthday or a graduation, KIND will be with you every step of the way. We know that jewellery is incredibly sentimental, and we are here to help you celebrate the milestone occasions in life, with the most genuine customer service and highly skilled craftsmanship.

If you would like to create something bespoke with KIND in early 2023, please get in touch with us as soon as possible to avoid missing out. Bookings are available via our website, or alternatively you can contact us via email (hello@kindjewellery.com) to arrange a time to discuss your bespoke idea.

Colour Friday

This year we won't be holding a Black Friday sale, but instead we will be celebrating Colour Friday!

There are many reasons why Black Friday has a detrimental affect on the retail industry – one is the environmental impact, and the other is the affect it has on small businesses.

ENVIRONMENTAL

In a nutshell, Black Friday discounts lead to impulsive buying, and the overconsumption of goods. The sales make you feel as though you NEED to buy an item – but more often this leads to buying things people don’t actually need, and the items end up back in landfill. It is estimated that 80% of Black Friday purchases are thrown away after just one – or zero uses. Additionally, it is important to think about WHO has made those items of clothing that you have purchased. If the brand is not transparent about their supply chain, then it could be that the sale is at the expense of the factory workers.

SMALL BUSINESS

From a small business point of view, Black Friday can force many businesses to feel was though they must take part in the sale – even if it means their minor profit margins are cut significantly. As a small business, the profit margins are already significantly lower than large companies that mass produce their products – often under paying their workers. For creatives that hand make their products, there is a combination of time, passion and skilled craftsmanship that goes into every design.

So that leads us to celebrating COLOUR FRIDAY! A new initiative that encourages people to support small and local businesses in creative ways. It was a retail revolution set up by business advocate and founder of Not on The High Street, Holly Tucker.

This Colour Friday, the theme is Vote With Your Money. Choose the type of world that you want to live in, and support the businesses that are going to help make that happen. When you are purchasing festive gifts, support small businesses and creatives, who have taken the time and care to bring their products to life.

How can you join in with Colour Friday?

Shop with independent businesses.

Instead of choosing large corporations that pump out fast fashion, year after year, choose to purchase your goods from a small and independent business. When you shop from a small business, there is an actual person on the other side of the order that celebrates the support. So spread more love and joy this festive season and support your favourite small businesses instead.

Choose long lasting gifts

Choose your gifts carefully and find ones that have been made to last the test of time, rather than mass produced items that are destined for landfill. When you shop from independent designers, you are also more likely to find something unique – rather than a mass produced item that thousands of others are wearing.

Quality over quantity

Shop less – but make it count! Purchase less items this festive season – but make them items that you actually need, and ones that will bring you joy for years to come. Choose quality pieces that have been hand crafted with love and care, so you can cherish it for years to come.

Choose Love donation

Additionally, instead of holding a sale this weekend, we have also pledged to donate 20% of our profits to Choose Love, a charity that works with refugees and those who have been displaced. The past 12 months have seen the largest numbers of displaced individuals, with many fleeing the war in Ukraine. Choose Love helps to provide necessary items (like clean water, winter clothing and hot food), as well as life changing interventions (like medical assistance and evacuations).

If you would like to donate to Choose Love – you can do so by purchasing a piece of KIND jewellery, or you can donate directly to them via their website

We hope you vote with your money wisely this festive season, and work together to keep independent creatives and designers in business.

REWORK X RECYCLE: Emma

Breathe new life into your pre-loved jewellery with our REWORK X RECYCLE services. We encourage our community to curate a collection of jewellery that they will wear forever and renew or rework those they no longer do.

As part of our sustainability initiative, REWORK X RECYCLE, we had the pleasure of working with Emma of redesigning her heirloom jewellery that had been in her family for several generations. Although the pieces were incredibly sentimental, they were not to her taste, and as a result they were kept hidden away in a jewellery box.

This week we spoke to Emma about her experience with KIND, and we have shared her lovely words with you all.

Can you talk us through the pieces we reworked and why they were so sentimental to you:

I reworked pieces of jewellery that I inherited from my family. Knowing that I could redesign them and turn them into pieces that I could wear everyday, like my grandmother and great grandmother did, was so important to me. Now I get to carry part of them with me each day, knowing that they are made of the same gold and stones that they cherished. It makes me feel like they are with me every day.

Why did you choose to work with KIND collection on your pieces?

I chose KIND because Tansy is hands down an absolute treasure. Not only is she the loveliest person you could ever meet but she is so passionate about every piece she's worked on with me with. It's amazing how she can make an idea in your head a reality. She is also so easy to brainstorm ideas with and so patient even when you end up changing your mind 100 times as you can get so scared of getting it wrong! But she's so understanding and committed to getting what you want absolute right, it's almost like the items are her family heirlooms too! She's a true artist and when I end up sending off my family treasures, I do in the knowledge that what I get back will be better than I even imagined!

How do your new designs make you feel?

Like home. Like being part of something bigger than myself. Like I'm connected to people in my family from generations that I never even met. It's a strange combination of comfort, pride and joy that is hard to put into words.

Do you have any tips or advice for people considering turning their heirloom pieces into something new?

Go for it. Even if you're worried just talk ideas through. You don't have to commit until you're certain you've got it right. Tansy has an amazing ability to get you to where you need to be. I've never felt any pressure to commit to anything and have always felt like so much thought and inspiration has gone into my pieces. Don't be afraid to look into what you can create with Kind. It's amazing.

If our REWORK X RECYCLE initiative resonates with you, please don’t hesitate to reach out. We can use the entirety of your pre-loved jewellery, or combine it with new precious metals and gemstones too. Book an appointment online (here), or get in touch via email (hello@kindjewellery.com).

How we select a KIND diamond

Diamonds are one of the most frequently sought-after gemstones in our studio, and we take great pride in selecting each individual stone, to ensure they meet our meticulous standards.

While the 4Cs and certificates are an important consideration, they do not describe the overall beauty of the stone. To ensure our customers receive the most breathtaking diamond, we delve beyond the basics to assess the stones.

The KIND founder, Tansy Haak, has an incredibly eye for gemstones and searches for and identifies diamonds that not only meet our high-quality standards but also provide our customers with excellent value.

Understanding the elements that affect a diamond’s beauty takes years of experience and continuous research, but is something that Tansy as acquired after years of handcrafting jewellery.

How do we assess a diamond? We identify the type, colour and inclusions that the diamond has. For example – does the diamond have any specific inclusions that may risk future damage? We assess whether the diamond shows a true representation of its natural colour, or whether it has been affected by fluorescence which may make the diamond appear slightly hazy or cloudy.

We take the work out of searching for the perfect diamond by vetting the stones for you. By doing this, we take the pressure off our customers and remove the stress from the diamond buying process.

In addition to the quality of the stone, we can guarantee the authenticity and conflict free nature of the diamond and the mining practices that harvested it from the earth. A vast majority of the diamonds we use at KIND are Canada Mark. These stones are mined in the north west territories of Canada and are only cut and traded by authorised cutting houses and dealers.

We also source a number of our stones from Ocean Diamonds, which are all accompanied by a Certificate of Provenance that specifies the origin and the coastal area where the gem has been harvested by hand. Their diamonds are retrieved in a responsible manner along the coast of South Africa and Namibia - and we are proud to work with them at KIND Collection. You can learn more about our diamond suppliers, here.

We also take great pleasure from working with vintage diamonds that have been passed down or gifted to our customers from their loved ones. Our Rework X Recycle services allow you to include your own diamonds in your KIND jewellery, and gives your jewellery an extra touch of sentimental value. You can learn more about our bespoke and Rework X Recycle offerings, here.

Our diamond collection is a proud reflection of our commitment to quality. If you have any questions or would like to learn more about where our diamonds come from, please do not hesitate to reach out.

September birthstone: Sapphire

Radiate feelings of inner warmth, sincerity, faithfulness and empowerment with the September birthstone – Sapphire.

Sapphires are the well-loved and celebrated birthstone for those born in September, and they are also one of the four precious gemstones, with the other stones being Diamonds, Emeralds and Rubies.

They are an incredibly durable stone, second only to Diamonds on the Mohs hardness scale, making them a perfect addition to any heirloom piece that will be worn and treasured for multiple lifetimes.

HISTORY

Originating from the Greek word ‘sappheiros’, sapphires are engrained with ancient symbolism, and have a rich history. Sapphires are often associated with holding mystical powers. In ancient times, it was believed that Sapphires protected from evil and would ward off illness. This stone was also believed to bring gifts of fulfilment, joy, beauty, prosperity, and inner peace to the wearer.

While adored by everyone, sapphires were historically worn by royals and affluent members of society. The ancient Greeks and Romans believed that blue sapphires protected themselves from harm and envy. During the Middle Ages, the royals wore sapphires because they believed they were connected to the prosperity of heaven. Other ancient civilisations believed the earth actually rested on a giant sapphire, which made the sky blue.

With its almost ethereal appearance and range of shades, it’s no surprise royalty love this birthstone.

COLOUR

Sapphires are most known and thought of for their deep, royal blue colour tone, but sapphires can actually be found in almost every colour – with one notable exception, red sapphires are known as rubies. Many cultures across the world have seen sapphires as a symbol of wisdom and divinity.

Sapphires are formed from volcanic activity, and due to the natural circumstances, no two Sapphires will ever look exactly the same.

IN THE STUDIO

We love this stone for its glorious colour, historical significance, and exceptional durability. Sapphires are very popular in the KIND studio, and we are proud to work with a number of sapphire dealers that aim to empower both the mining communities and the consumer. Most of our sapphires are sourced from Fair-Trade Gemstones which is a family run business that has operated for over 40 years. For more unusual Sapphires we work closely with Nineteen48 which operate their own mines and cutting houses in beautiful Sri Lanka (a place very close to our hearts).

Sapphires can be found in our collection, notably included in our Rainbow Horizon Bar Necklace and One of A KIND Necklaces. They can also be added into any of our collection pieces through our personalisation services, where you can add a gemstone or engraving of your choice to your jewellery.

Sapphires can also be included in any bespoke jewellery – and whilst we are able to source sapphires of any colour, carrat and clarity to these designs, we are also able to incorporate your own sapphires and other gemstones through our Rework X Recycle services.

If you are interested in commissioning a bespoke piece with this beautiful gemstone, or have any questions about the sapphires that we use in our studio, please feel free to get in touch with us.

REWORK X RECYCLE: Claire

We recently had the pleasure of working with KIND customer, Claire, on her 40th birthday to redesign a Diamond Pendant that she had received from her parents when she was 18.

Whilst the initial design was sweet and beautifully made, it wasn’t a style that Claire felt passionate about, and thus the necklace was rarely worn.

After sitting down with Claire in an initial consultation, we quickly understood the aesthetic that she wanted brought to life. Firstly, we worked on a chunkier version of our Wild Love ring for her to wear alongside her wedding band. We incorporated 4 ethically mined Rubies into the design to signify each member of her family, which made the ring uniquely symbolic to Claire.

From here, we began the journey of redesigning her necklace from when she was 18, by using the existing 18ct gold and Diamond, alongside an eye-catching diamond that was a part of her grandmothers engagement ring and a gold chain she had also inherited. We designed a necklace with an organic form which took influence from the wild love ring with handcarved markings along each edge. The Diamonds were set flush within the pendant and she now has the option to wear them facing inwards or outwards depending on how visible she wants them to be.

The new design fit seamlessly into her everyday life and has become a piece that she will wear day-in and day-out for many years to come.

Claire was kind enough to answer a few questions about her experience, and you can find her responses outlined below:

What is the meaning and significance of the materials that were used in this Recycle + Rework design?

I didn’t wear a necklace that I had received for my 18th birthday from my parents. For my 40th birthday this year, I wanted to be able to have this piece re-worked and turned into a piece that I’d wear on a regular basis.

What was the inspiration behind your designs?

I was after an organic shape that could hold the diamond in a way where the diamond wasn’t the most prominent feature.

Why was it important to you that you could use your own materials?

The idea of being able to use as much of the original materials was very important, and I didn’t want to use any new materials unless it was absolutely necessary. After working with Tansy on this new necklace, it was an added bonus that there was enough extra gold to also create a Wild Love Ring to sit alongside my wedding ring. The two rings pair beautifully together.

Does your new jewellery hold more sentimental value knowing that it was once another design that had been inherited?

Yes, there is a combination of an 18th birthday gift, plus a stone from my Grandmother’s engagement ring. It means a lot to be able to wear these gemstones and gold everyday now.

Why did you choose KIND Collection to create your new piece?

I have been following Tansy for a while on Instagram and I was given a piece of her collection for my birthday. I loved the craftsmanship and designs, and KIND’s ethos and approach perfectly suited what I was after. I love both pieces!

If you have any pre-loved or unworn jewellery sitting at the bottom of your jewellery box, please get in touch with KIND Collection. We can work with you to redesign these pieces into something that you will love and cherish for the test of time. You can make an appointment via our website, or send us an email at hello@kindjewellery.com

What is an 'Ethical Jeweller'?

ETHICAL

(eth·i·cal)

Connected with moral principles about what is right and wrong and the branch of knowledge dealing with these practices.

In order for jewellery to classified as ethical, the traceability of each element must be identified. An ethical jeweller should be completely transparent about their supply chain and where their materials (precious metals and gemstones) are sourced from, and be able to provide you with evidence prior to purchase.

When tracing the materials back to the suppliers, it is also important to identify the impact that it has had on the planet – and the community. Traditional mining practices have been fraught with malpractices, and the welfare of the workers haven often fallen short.

In a world where greenwashing prevalent in almost every industry, it can be hard to identify which brands are actually doing their part to to have a positive impact on our planet and wider communities. Today we are sharing 3 crucial things that a jeweller must be able to show, in order to be considered ‘ethical’.

3 THINGS A JEWELLERY BRAND MUST DO TO BE CONSIDERED ETHICAL

01. Address overconsumption

Alongside fast fashion, jewellery is often worn just a handful of times before ending up in landfill. If jewellery has been plated, the gold or silver can quickly fade, leaving the cheaper materials behind.

At KIND Collection, we take an active approach to lowering the overconsumption of jewellery by only working with solid precious metals, to ensure the longevity of each piece. We also offer our Recycle + Rework services to those who no longer wear their jewellery, and would like to use the existing materials and redesign them into a new style. Our aim is to create a circular economy with our jewellery, where each piece can last generations and be redesigned time and time again.

02. Support the workers

Arguably the most important aspect of being an ethical jeweller is the focus on the miners and local communities where the materials are sourced from. Diamond and precious metal mines have been associated with violence and unfair labour for decades – so the traceability of the materials used in your jewellery is crucial for it to be considered ‘ethical’.

Since KIND Collection first began, our aim was to ensure every piece of gold/silver/platinum and gemstone could be traced from mine to market. We have done our research to ensure that not only our supply chain is ethical – but that the businesses we work with also exclusively implement ethical practices. You can learn more about our suppliers in our recent blog: "The KIND Supply Chain”.

03. Reduce the environmental impact

In addition to the issue of overconsumption, there are many other things that an ethical jeweller must consider in order to reduce their impact on the planet. Harsh chemicals are often used when manufacturing jewellery, which can end up in water systems and subsequently harming our environment.

To ensure our jewellery has minimal impact on the planet, we only use non-toxic products when cleaning and creating our jewellery. We also encourage our community to purchased pre-loved jewellery through our Vintage Collection. Shopping vintage is a great way to support sustainable and ethical practices, as the materials are already in circulation. Additionally, our Recycle + Rework services also encourage our community to reuse the materials that they already have, which also enhances the sentimental value of their special piece.

As a business, we aim to be KIND. Our jewellery has been handcrafted in the UK with our planet and humankind in mind. We are open about our supply chain and encourage you get in contact with us if you have any questions about our suppliers or our methods.

KIND Wedding & Engagement Rings

Designing your engagement or wedding ring is an exciting experience, and we are here to help you discover your perfect ring by private appointment.

Our appointments are either held virtually online or in person at our dedicated London location. Upon arrival you will be warmly welcomed by Tansy Haak, the KIND Collection founder. Tansy will gently guide you through the entire process, from the initial design concept to the final touches.

After securing your appointment day and time online, it is best if you collate any notes and images that will help to translate your desired style, colour and cut. It is optional to send this information across to Tansy prior to your appointment, to give her the opportunity to be best prepared for your upcoming appointment. If Tansy already has an idea in mind for your general style, she can bring additional suggestions and prior designs to show you as an example.

In addition to the design of the ring, it is important to consider the precious materials that will be included in your ring. At KIND Collection, we only use ethically sourced diamonds and gemstones in our jewellery, so you can feel rest assured that your ring hasn’t had left a negative impact on the world we live in. We source all of our natural diamonds from Canada Marked Diamonds or Ocean Diamonds, both of which adhere to the ‘Kimberly Process’.

In addition to diamonds, many gemstones also feature prominently in our engagement and wedding rings. Once again, we have done our research to ensure each precious gemstone is traceable from mine to market. Many of Sapphires, Rubies & Emeralds are sourced from Fair-Trade Gemstones, which is a family run business that has operated for over 40 years. Our Emeralds and Amethysts are sourced directly from Brazil Gemstones, which is another wonderful family run business that follows many internationally recognised green initiatives, such as the Environmental Impact Assessment Certificate.

After discussing your style and materials at your appointment, Tansy will sketch a final copy of your ring so you can visually see the design before the production begins. Attached with your illustrated ring will be 2 sets of complimentary quotes, to help you decide upon the ring of your choice. These quotes will compare the prices of 100% recycled gold or platinum, alongside Fairmined gold or platinum alongside the cost of your gemstones or diamonds.

If you wish to pair your wedding band to your engagement rings, then you can discuss with Tansy in your initial consult. Whether you want a design that tessellates with your engagement ring, or a simplistic yet timeless band, Tansy will help to pair both styles together.

Everyones love is unique, and we do everything that we can to ensure that your ring reflects your compassion for one another. If you would like to discuss a personal modern heirloom or would like some more information about our wedding and engagement rings, please don’t hesitate to get in touch.

Mens engagement & wedding rings

Mens engagement rings are on the rise, and we are honoured to have the privilege to be a part of the journey for many of our KIND customers.

Over the years, many couples have been diverting away from traditions, with the male partners being the recipient of an engagement ring. Jewellery holds a lot of sentimental value, and it is always important to remember that there is no right or wrong ways to celebrate love. Men can also display their love and affection by wearing an engagement ring, and today we are highlighting some of the designs that we have worked on in the KIND studio.

Every piece of jewellery has a story to tell, and this wedding ring set is one of our favourite tales. David and Josh commissioned and designed their rings, using their own diamonds and gold. Whilst the two designs are intrinsically different, they complement each others style – just as the pair do throughout life.

Another memorable design was for Joy and Josh. Whilst Joy’s design is delicate and detailed, Josh’s 8mm matte gold wedding ring is bold, and incorporates the gold from his fathers wedding ring.

———

When designing your own ring, there are many things to consider – but visually the four overarching elements are the style, the finish, the precious metal, and the gemstones.

THE PRECIOUS METALS
The best place to start when designing your own jewellery is considering the precious metal, as that will set the colour foundation for the ring. If you are contemplating a ring with a silver hue, read our recent blog ‘Platinum Vs Silver Vs White Gold’, to understand the difference between the precious metals. If you prefer a gold finish, then you have the option of rose gold and yellow gold – both of which are available in 9ct and 18ct by using fairmined or 100% recycled gold.

Precious metals can also be melted down and redesigned, so if you have inherited a piece of jewellery (just like the couples mentioned above), then you can include those materials in your ring to add an extra layer of sentimental value.

THE STYLE

After choosing the precious metals, it’s time to set the tone by deciding on the style of your ring. Whilst some men prefer a simplistic band, others opt for a more intricate signet ring style. Signet rings can be engraved with a symbol, crest or loving message, which makes them a romantic option for engagement rings. Our latest Vintage KIND Collection features a number of unisex signet rings that can be resized and personalised with an engraving or gemstone.

Browse our Vintage Collection, here.

THE FINISH

There are so many ways to make your ring unique – and one popular option is the finish. In the KIND studio, we have worked on a number of rings that have a matte design, a glossy shine, a hammered surface, and a perfectly smooth exterior. If you are going to be wearing a wedding and engagement ring, it can be a good idea to consider the finishing of both designs, to ensure they complement each other when they are worn together.

THE GEMSTONES

Traditionally, gemstones (in particular, diamonds) have been heavily featured in engagement rings for women – so why should it be any different for men? At KIND, we have loved working with a range of bespoke styles for men that range from subtle bling to bold and bright designs. Another trend that we have seen in the studio has been gemstones, which have often been passed down through families, set on the inside of the ring. This is a beautiful way for those who prefer a subtle design to include the sentimental value of a gemstone.

If you are thinking about commissioning a wedding or engagement ring, please get in touch with us at KIND. We work closely with our customers from start to finish, to ensure the ring is exactly what they had in mind.

Platinum Vs Silver Vs White gold

Commissioning a unique piece of jewellery is a highly sentimental experience, and choosing the right metal for the foundation can be a tricky task.

Whether its a wedding or engagement ring, a visual mantra necklace, or a timeless design to celebrate a milestone – most customers know the colour tone (gold or silver) of their desired piece – however, if you have chosen a ‘silver tone’, there is more to the decision than you may think!

When our customers are designing a silver-hued piece of jewellery, we often get asked – what’s the different between platinum, white gold and sterling silver?

Although the trio of precious metals look similar with a silvery hue, they are quite different in terms of colour, durability, and price. Today on our blog, we are sharing the difference between these three metals, so you can find the right one for you.

COLOUR

SILVER

One of the more noticeable differentiating factors between the precious metals is the colour, which comes down to the minerals that the metal is made up of, as well as the alloys that it is mixed with. Sterling silver has a slightly duller appearance, as it is mixed with copper when making jewellery, to give it more durability.

WHITE GOLD

Similar to sterling silver, white gold isn’t a pure metal, and is made by combining pure gold (which is yellow in colour) with an alloy metal called Palladium. As the foundations of this metal come from the combination of yellow gold and palladium, white gold can often appear to be grey or off-white in colour. To give it a brighter shine, most white gold jewellery is coated in a thin layer of rhodium plating, which gives it a brighter white appearance. As the plating is seperate to the metal, it can wear off overtime, and will need to be reapplied every few years to keep the desired shine.

PLATINUM

Platinum is a pure metal and is naturally white, which means its colour will never fade, unlike its sterling silver and white gold counterparts. It is not mixed with any alloys and it maintains its colour for years to come. This is one of the reasons why platinum is the most popular ‘silver toned’ metal used in bespoke KIND jewellery.

DURABILITY

SILVER

Silver on its own is a very soft metal, which is why it is blended with copper to make it more durable for everyday wearability. Even so, it is still not as durable as white gold or platinum, which is why we don’t encourage our customers to choose this metal for lifelong bespoke pieces, like wedding or engagement rings. Due to the copper elements, silver jewellery also needs to be polished more frequently than the other precious metals.

PLATINUM

Platinum is a very dense metal which means it can could be worn for decades and barely loses any thickness – which is why it is such a popular choice for wedding and engagement rings. When platinum is scratched, the metal is not lost – instead it just moves aside to another part of jewellery. Whilst this means your jewellery will always hold its value and won’t become thinner overtime, it also means it has a tendency to loose its sharp edges.

WHITE GOLD

Although not as dense as Platinum, white gold is still a very strong option and can retain intricate fine details, such as engravings or sharp edges better than platinum. The downside of white gold is that it is more susceptible to wearing away. When gold is scratched, tiny, microscopic pieces of the precious metal flake away, which means the jewellery can become very thin overtime due to the metal wearing off.

PRICE

SILVER

Sterling silver is the cheapest option out of the three metals, as there is a larger supply of silver than there is of gold and platinum. The copper alloy that is added to silver to increase its durability is also cheaper than Palladium, which is added to yellow gold to create white gold jewellery.

WHITE GOLD

Although white gold is a cheaper alternative to platinum, the Rhodium plating needs to replated every few years, which creates further costs down the line. The additional maintenance costs of white gold can add up overtime, compared to platinum which only needs to be polished every few years.

PLATINUM

Platinum is the most expensive option out of the three, and is considered the highest quality option for the “silver” precious metals. It is the most durable and requires the lowest maintenance out of all the silver toned metals – and it holds its value over time. In the KIND Studio, Platinum is our prefer metal for “silver” hued jewellery, as it lasts the test of time, and can be worn for generations.

How to clean your jewellery at home

Cleaning your jewellery at home can be a lot easier than you may think!

How often you need to clean your jewellery will depend on how often you wear your special piece. If you wear your jewellery daily it will likely need to be cleaned more regularly than a piece you wear only for special occasions.

How to clean your jewellery at home

STEP ONE:

Wash your jewellery with warm water and a gentle fragrance free liquid soap. The soap must have no moisturising elements, antiseptic or harsh chemicals.

** If you are cleaning a necklace, please remove the pendant from the chain prior to soaking it, as soaking your chain in water and soap can cause the chain to weaken. You should carefully polish your chain with a polishing cloth separately. **

STEP TWO:

If your jewellery has precious stones in it, you can use a cloth or very soft bristled brush to gently help get grime out of any crevices. Don’t leave soft gems soaking in water, as this may affect them. Once your jewellery is clean, be sure to rinse and dry the piece quickly to avoid any watermarks.

Tarnishing

All metals will naturally tarnish over time, however this process will happen much faster if your jewellery has contact with perfume, oils, household chemicals, makeup, sulphur, chlorine or other acidic elements.

If your piece of KIND jewellery has started to tarnish, you can send it back to the studio to be professionally cleaned – prices start at £25. Alternatively, if you would like to clean it at home, we recommend gently soaking your jewellery in warm water with a tiny bit of liquid soap. Once the piece is submerged, carefully wipe your jewellery with a polishing cloth. Do not use tissue paper or paper towels to clean metal as they can scratch your jewellery.

Once finished, give the piece a thorough rinse and carefully dry it to remove any soap residue.

Avoid corrosive products

Gold is naturally a soft metal, which means you need to be very gentle when cleaning it. Silver and Platinum are slightly more robust, however significant care should be taken with them as well. Avoid using any corrosive cleaning products on your jewellery, as it can eat away at the metal. You may have heard that toothpaste or baking soda are good options for cleaning your jewellery – however these substances can actually remove very small amounts of metal, which may cause irreparable damage your jewellery.

Storing your jewellery safely

After you’ve cleaned your jewellery, it is important to think about how best to store your special pieces to help keep them clean and protected. It is best practice to avoid storing your KIND jewellery in humid places such as bathrooms, as this can increase the possibility of tarnishing. We recommend taking your jewellery off when coming in contact with water (showering, swimming cleaning etc), and keeping your precious pieces stored in a small jewellery box. To avoid scratching, it is best practice to keep your jewellery pieces stored individually, so that your rings and chains do not rub together.

If you are unsure how to clean your special KIND Collection piece, or if you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to reach out!

Lab Grown Diamonds VS Natural Diamonds

At KIND Collection, we are passionate about ethically sourced gemstones. We handpick every diamond that features in one of our engagement and bespoke rings and we are big believers in quality over quantity when it comes to gemstones.

Whilst every natural diamond that comes into the KIND studio has been ethically mined, cut & traded, we have had an increase in requests for lab grown diamonds as a sustainable alternative. As we can source lab grown diamonds upon request, we wanted to share a little insight on these stones and how they compare to natural diamonds.

Diamonds have long been a favourite in the jewellery industry, for its hardness and durability and of course their sparkle. They are a popular gemstone in the KIND studio, as they are frequently used in engagement and bespoke designs.

WHAT IS A LAB GROWN DIAMOND?

Lab diamonds are real diamonds, grown in a laboratory environment, instead of growing in the Earth. The physical appearance of a lab diamond is exactly the same as a natural diamond, and they grow with the same natural inclusions and so can be graded, like natural stones, on their colour & clarity. Each stone above around .30cts is certified by the IGI laboratory and they also come in a variety of shapes and sizes like natural diamonds.

A lab grown diamond is produced using one of 2 methods. The first is the Chemical Vapour Deposition method. A rough CVD lab-grown diamond is grown from a diamond plate. High temperatures are applied and carbon detaches itself from hydrogen and methane gases to form a plasma cloud. This cloud starts to build up a diamond on the plate layer by layer.

The second is the High Pressure High Temperature method (HPHT). This method involves a tiny piece of diamond material called a ‘seed, which is combined with carbon and put under immense levels of heat and pressure. These are the same conditions in which a natural diamond is formed in the earth but unlike a natural diamond, a lab diamond doesn’t take billions of years to create, instead these modern growing methods take a fraction of the time. As a result, the price of a natural diamond is generally much higher than that of a lab grown.

WHERE DOES KIND COLLECTION SOURCE NATURAL DIAMONDS?

At KIND Collection, we do our research to ensure every diamond that comes into our studio has been traced from mine to market, ensuring they are ethically sourced.

WHERE DOES KIND COLLECTION SOURCE LABGROWN DIAMONDS?

We work closely with our contact at Madestones in Antwerp, Belgium to source Certified Labgrown Diamonds. They are currently undergoing a thorough “SMETA” audit, which is one of the most widely used ethical audits

The SMETA audit covers all aspects of corporate responsibility, focusing on the 4 pillars; Health and Safety, Labour standards, Environment, Business ethics.

NATURAL DIAMONDS VS LAB GROWN

The verdict is still out as to which is a better option for the environment. The main factor which separates these two stones is the price. Lab grown diamonds are far more affordable than natural stones and so if you are looking for a larger stone with a smaller price tag then they could be worth considering as an option. In our opinion you can’t beat the beauty of a natural diamond, which has been formed by Mother Nature. That said it is undeniable how incredible and Innovative the science is behind lab grown stones.

In the end, each commission is unique and we are lucky to work closely with each customer to make a pieces which reflect the elements of sustainability and design which are most important to them.

Whether sourcing Natural or Labgrown diamonds we are very conscious about the gemstone suppliers that we work with making all our stones an ethical choice.

At KIND, we also offer a Rework + Recycle service, which allows our customers to include their own existing diamonds in their jewellery. This is a fantastic sustainable option, as the gemstones are already in circulation.

If you are looking to commission a special piece of jewellery, using natural, lab-grown diamonds or even your own the please get in touch with us at KIND Collection. You can book an appointment online to discuss your idea with KIND’s founder, Tansy Haak.

KIND Recycle + Rework: Laura's

One of the biggest joys at KIND Collection is working closely with our customers to create special heirloom pieces that hold an infinite amount of sentimental value.

Earlier this year we had the pleasure of working closely with a lovely customer, Laura, and we are thrilled to be able to share her design and story on our journal today.

Laura had inherited an heirloom ring from her late grandmother – who had inherited the ring from her older sister, several years prior. It had been a piece that had been within the family for many years and had a lot of personality and story to tell.

Laura’s grandmother had passed away during the pandemic after working her whole life as a nurse for the NHS. She was remembered as a kind, strong woman, who gave everything to her community and helped others whenever possible.

Although Laura loved the meaning and value behind the ring, she knew it wasn’t quite her style – so she commissioned a redesign through KIND Recycle + Rework.

Using the entirety of the original ring (precious metals and diamonds), we worked closely with Laura to create a ring that reflected her style and taste, whilst bringing across the love and sentimental value that the ring carries.

The result was truly stunning. We kept the same outline as the original ring but created an open and infinite circle as a visual reminder of the constant generosity that her grandmother had for the community – and it is a nod to all the strong women that she had in her life as she was growing up.

It is a piece that she will cherish for her life, and pass down to her children later in life.

Last year we also had the pleasure of working with Laura on another bespoke piece that was created in celebration of her daughter. The visual mantra necklace was made from 100% recycled Rose Gold and featured an ethically mined diamond.

The pendant was designed with a sun, moon and a diamond star to represent the past, the present and the future. Laura wanted to create a piece that would represent the women who raised her and the daughter she will raise herself. Made to be worn close to her heart, this piece signifies the women in her life and is an incredibly powerful piece.

If you have inherited any jewellery that just isn’t your style, or if you would like to update a piece that you bought years ago, then we can work together to turn it into a design that will become embroidered into the story of your life. Get in contact with us at hello@kindcollection.com or book an appointment to discuss your vision.

KIND Rework x Recycle: Ruth

It's always a pleasure to celebrate the love of our clients, and we were so thrilled to be a part of the journey to create Ruth’s very special engagement ring as part of our Recycle + Rework services.

Since KIND Collection first began, our Rework + Recycle services have held a very special place in our hearts. As a business, we aim to create zero waste and we encourage our community to do the same. KIND Recycle + Rework services is our way of repurposing and redesigned all those unworn and forgotten pieces of jewellery that have been inherited and handed down through generations.

We understand that jewellery can hold a lot of sentimental value when it is passed down between family and friends, and we are proud to be able to recreate a piece of jewellery, whilst using the existing precious metals and gemstones to preserved the emotional value of the piece.

We recently redesigned this engagement ring for Ruth, using the materials from a ring that she had inherited from her grandmother who had sadly passed away.

From start to finish, we worked closely with Ruth to ensure the design was exactly what she had in mind. It needed to become a design that she would wear everyday and cherish for a lifetime. We used 100% recycled 18ct rose gold for the design, which was complemented by the deep blue of the sapphire from her grandmothers original ring. The sapphire in this ring is an absolute stunner, and caught the light from every angle.

We adored creating this piece for Ruth and we are so pleased that we could create a design that reflected Ruth’s style, whilst still being a loving tribute to her belated grandmother.

If you have inherited any jewellery that just isn’t your style, or if you would like to update a piece that you bought years ago, then we can work together to turn it into a design that will become embroidered into the story of your life. Get in contact with us at hello@kindcollection.com or book an appointment to discuss your vision.

Vintage Jewellery

As a brand, we are always looking for new and innovative ways to be more sustainable. In 2020, we launched our first Vintage KIND Collection, which features a curated selection of pieces that have been sourced from across the UK.

We recently launched our third Vintage Collection – which is our largest and most inclusive collection yet. To celebrate the launch of our new vintage range, we have spotlighted 5 reasons why buying vintage jewellery is a great choice!

A sustainable choice

Buying vintage is the most sustainable option, as the precious metals and gemstones are already in circulation. When you shop vintage and reuse the precious metals and gemstones, you reduce the environmentally damaging effects of mining practices. The reduced labour impact means less energy usage too. Buying a piece of vintage jewellery that has been in circulation for many years is environmentally sustainable and is not adding to the ever growing carbon footprint.

A connection to history

There is something very romantic about jewellery from another era, with a story to tell. With a piece of vintage, you become part of the next chapter of the jewellery’s sparkling history. Vintage pieces have soul, as they previously belonged to someone else, and they have history and a story to tell, about both our culture and the person who wore it.

Unique designs

Vintage jewellery pieces are truly unique. They are often beautiful heirloom pieces that were previously made with purpose and care. From the style of the piece to the cut of the gemstone, there is a certain charm about vintage jewellery that isn’t always available in modern pieces. In the past, gemstones were cut by hand – giving them a completely unique look. Additionally, as vintage jewellery hasn’t been made recently, it is highly unlikely that you will ever find a duplicate of your piece. Identical matches were more or less impossible to find.

Well made and long lasting

If a piece of vintage jewellery has made it intact and in good condition to this day, chances are it’s extremely well made and – with proper care – will last a lifetime to come. Today, most modern jewellery is cast, however in the past, vintage jewellery was almost always handmade, right down to the final touches.

Timeless designs

Trends come and go, but timeless pieces can be loved for eternity. Whilst modern trends often reference historical designs, a true vintage piece will always have a different look and feel to its modern counterparts. A classic piece from any era can stand the test of time, and is a great investment as it will continue to hold its value for decades to come.

Our latest Vintage KIND Collection is our largest yet, and features a number of stunning rings, necklaces and earrings. Browse our Vintage KIND Collection online and fall in love with these timeless classics.
