Modern Technology Meets Age-Old Craftsmanship
At KIND Collection, we are passionate about preserving the art of handcrafted jewellery while embracing the benefits of modern technology. We use a host of different techniques in the studio and are constantly exploring new ways to work. Whilst most of our collection is entirely handmade, for some of our more intricate bespoke pieces we utilise the precision of computer-aided design (CAD). This fusion of age-old craftsmanship and cutting-edge technology allows us to create stunning, high-quality engagement and wedding rings while maintaining the personal touch and artistry that defines our work.
The Perfect Balance: Lovingly Handcrafted with CAD Precision
Every KIND Collection ring goes through an intensive and thoughtful creation process. The use of CAD ensures that the most intricate details, particularly complex claw settings, are engineered with accuracy, creating a flawless base for our team of skilled artisans to work with.
Once the digital design is complete, the piece is brought to life using traditional jewellery-making techniques, from metal casting to stone setting (and even the option of hand engraving).
The Process: From Vision to Modern Heirloom
Step 1: Meet with Tansy to Discuss Your Vision
Every bespoke piece starts with a conversation. Whether in-person or via an online consultation, Tansy Haak, our founder and designer, will guide you through the process of creating your dream ring. We’ll discuss everything from metal choices to gemstones, band style, and personal touches to ensure your ring reflects your unique story.
Step 2: Hand-Sketched Designs & Client Approval
Once we have a deeper understanding of your vision, Tansy sketches out the design by hand. This is a crucial stage where your ideas take shape, and adjustments can be made before moving forward. We want you to feel completely confident in your ring’s design, so we encourage feedback and revisions.
Step 3: Bringing the Design to Life with CAD
For designs requiring extra precision, we collaborate with our skilled CAD designer to translate the hand-drawn sketches into a digital render. This allows us to see the design from all angles and perfect the finer details. Once the digital design is approved, a wax mould is 3D printed, ready for casting.
Step 4: Casting in Precious Metal
The wax mould is now cast in your chosen precious metal. A majority of our designs are cast in 100% Recycled or Fairmined gold (yellow, white and rose gold are all available) or in 100% recycled platinum. This process transforms the design from a wax model into a solid, enduring piece of jewellery that is ready for polishing and stone setting.
Step 5: Hand Finishing & Stone Setting
Once cast, Tansy and our team clean up each piece, check the sizing and making adjustments where necessary. Next our stone setters set each stone by hand, ensuring perfect placement. This step requires incredible skill, as each gemstone must be secured with precision. From here each piece is taken to the London Assay office who check the fineness of the metal and mark it with a number of different stamps. These include our makers mark (KIND) and a letter to represent the year it was made.
Step 6: The Final Touch – Personal Engraving & Finishing
The last and final step allows you to add another layer of personality to your ring. We offer the option to add a personalised engraving to your jewellery — whether it’s initials, a special date, or a meaningful message. Once complete, the ring undergoes its final polishing and quality checks before being beautifully packaged and sent to its new home.
Why This Process Matters
By blending modern technology with traditional craftsmanship, we ensure that every KIND Collection piece is both technically precise and artistically handcrafted. The use of CAD allows us to create intricate, beautifully structured designs, while the final touches — stone setting, engraving, and polishing—are completed by hand.
This means that every piece we create carries the warmth, skill, and care of a true artisan. Each piece is a testament to the perfect balance of tradition and innovation, resulting in a modern heirloom designed to last a lifetime.
